When I hear green smoothie, it has this double effect on me: on one hand it means clean eating and I kind of like this, while on the other hand I’m a quite sceptical about the taste. I have been working on a good green smoothie recipe for a while now and this one is by far my favorite: it doesn’t even taste vegetables!
As I started to train a bit more seriously this year (running, pilates and body pump), I noticed how important it is for my body to get some wholesome and nourrishing ingrediends, especially before and after training. As I like using natural ingredients as well, I often make myself a smoothie, and add spirulina in it to get some extra protein.
Spirulina is a sweet blue-green microalgue which is now known as a superfood, since it has a wide range of health benefits almost immediately upon ingestion: it’s a boost to one’s energy, it helps to improve the immune system and it is a natural detoxifier with powerful antioxidant properties. Spirulina contains between 55 and 70% protein (more than beef, chicken, and soybean), as well as many essential and non-essential amino acids, iron, calcium, phosphorus…
One other major ingredient for this smoothie is kale, which is recognized as providing comprehensive support for the body’s detoxification system.Researchers can now identify over 45 different flavanoids in kale, combining both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits in way that gives kale a leading dietary role.
Together with some tropical fruits like mangoes and bananas, and some coconut water, you get a delicious sweet and very refreshing green detox smoothie. You will be surprised by the great taste of this drink while drinking healthy. I know already that this smoothie is my best friend for this Summer, and maybe yours as well!
