We worked together several times in the past, and I have been using their beautiful products for many years. Today I’m trying their Matcha Superfood Powder through a delicious frappuccino and I’m really excited about it!
What is matcha frappuccino?
Matcha frappuccino is a frozen green tea latte prepared with premium matcha powder, a sweetened iced milk mixture, and topped off with a foamy sweetened whipped cream. Basically, it’s like a matcha latte, served iced cold. Matcha frappuccino features some sweet and earthy flavors, with a creamy and foamy consistency that makes it irresistible to the palate.
The ingredients you need:
- Matcha powder (or Magic Matcha*). The matcha powder you use is very important because that’s what’s gonna give the main flavor to your drink. Look for “ceremonial grade”, or go for Matcha Superfood Powder (see details below).*
- Milk. Any kind will do, from dairy milk to non dairy milk, including vegetable milks such as almond milk or oat milk for instance.
- Sweetened condensed milk. It sweetens the drink and gives a nice depth of flavor. For a vegan version, use sweetened coconut condensed milk instead.
- Vanilla extract. The sweet notes of vanilla extract always enhance your matcha drinks.
- Ice cubes/crushed iced. Ice is key to a delicious frappuccino! If possible, use crushed ice or small ice cubes rather than large ones, as they break down easily in the blender.
- Heavy whipping cream. You will need it for the whipped cream topping. For a vegan version, use the creamy part of a can of coconut milk.
- Blueberries (optional, for the blueberry swirl option). You can use them fresh or frozen.
What is Matcha Superfood Powder?
You can definitely make this matcha frappuccino the traditional way, using ceremonial grade matcha powder. Or you can choose Matcha Superfood Powder, a superfood blend that comes with additional health benefits. It features matcha powder (a good body cleanser), but also lion’s mane mushroom (supports brain health), ashwagandha root (aka Indian ginseng, calming and reducing stress effects), and ginger (known for its anti-inflammatory properties).
How to make matcha frappuccino?
- Start with making the whipped cream topping by foaming the whipping cream and the condensed milk. I recommend using a handheld milk frother to make your job easier and ensures a light and foamy texture. Once ready, set aside.
- Then, make the matcha frappuccino. It all happens in a blender, and ice is key to the right texture, don’t omit it! Blend until frothy and well combined. IMPORTANT: Sift the matcha powder over the blender rather than adding it all at once, or you may end up with matcha lumps.
- Pour the matcha frappuccino into a serving glass up to the top, add a few spoonfuls of whipped cream, and lightly sift additional matcha powder on top.
What about the blueberry swirl? You can make this matcha frappuccino with or without the blueberry swirl. If using it, simply blend the blueberries with agave syrup and a few spoonfuls of water until relatively smooth. You can do this using fresh or frozen blueberries. Ideally, I recommend covering the blueberry layer with crushed ice in the glass, then add a few spoonfuls of the iced milk texture as a middle layer. Lastly, pour the matcha frappuccino and top it off with the foam. Enjoy!
Can I make it vegan?
Absolutely! I listed the vegan substitutes in the ingredient list above. To make a vegan matcha frappuccino, you will need to replace the dairy product in the recipe, which means:
- Replace milk with vegetable milk (oat milk, almond milk or coconut milk work well).
- Instead of sweetened condensed milk, use sweetened coconut condensed milk.
- Replace whipped cream with the solid/creamy part of a can of coconut milk.
Then, proceed exactly as instructed in the recipe instructions and you should have a vegan matcha frappuccino ready in minutes. Easy!

Ingredients
Whipped Cream Topping:
- ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- 1 Tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
For the blueberry swirl (optional)*:
- ½ cup (120 ml) blueberries, fresh or frozen
- ½ Tablespoon agave syrup
- 2 Tablespoons water
For the matcha frappuccino:
- 4 cups (1 L) ice cubes or crushed ice
- 1 ½ cup (360 ml) milk, any kind
- 2 Tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- 1 Tablespoon matcha powder + extra for dusting
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
- For the whipped cream topping, whip together heavy cream and sweetened condensed milk, using a handheld milk frother. Whisk until it doubles in volume and forms soft peaks. Set aside.
- For the blueberry swirl (optional), combine blueberries, water and agave in a small blender and blend until smooth. Divide the blueberry puree in the bottom of two glasses.**
- For the middle milk layer (only if using the blueberry option), blend ice, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and sweetened condensed milk in a strong blender. Divide about 2 to 3 Tablespoons of this mixture over the blueberry layer.
- For the matcha frappuccino, sift the matcha powder*** over the remaining milk mixture and blend again until perfectly smooth. Divide evenly into the glasses. Top with whipped cream and garnish with sifted matcha. Add a straw and enjoy right away.
Notes
* You can make this matcha frappuccino with or without the blueberry bottom. Both options work pretty well! If you do not use the berries, then you can add the matcha powder to the milk mixture right away (no need for the milky middle layer).
** Tip: You can cover the blueberry bottom with a layer of crushed ice; this will ensure the blueberries don’t get mix up with the matcha frappuccino and turn into a grey~ish color.
*** It’s important to sift the matcha powder rather than adding it all at once, or you may end up with matcha lumps in your frappuccino.
