The recipe ingredients

The beauty of this whipped feta dip is that it requires very few ingredients and a basic food processor to blend it all together. Here’s what you need:

  • Feta cheese. It gives some irresistible salty flavors to your dip. Use a block of fresh feta in the brine, not crumbled feta that tends to be too dry.
  • Plain Greek yogurt. Make sure you choose full-fat yogurt for best result. It goes without saying, but always double check your yogurt is not flavored!
  • Sweetener. I usually go for honey, but maple syrup and agave syrup could do too. The use of a natural sweetener cuts the bitterness in the dip.
  • Olive oil (+ lemon juice). It creates a rich texture while the dip is blending, and adds extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Various seasonings and add-ons. Start with salt and freshly ground pepper, then explore the seasoning options: think dry or fresh herbs, spices, nuts… There are so many possible seasoning and topping ideas!

How to make whipped feta?

Place all the ingredients in a food processor (except for the olive oil and the seasoning) and blend. While the food processor is running, slowly add the olive oil and continue blending until soft and creamy. This result is usually achieved between 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl, add all the seasoning, stir, and serve with pita chips or any topping of choice. I told you it was easy!

Tips for success

  • Use a food processor fitted with a blade. It’s key to get the right texture, both creamy and whipped at the same time. You don’t need to have a very robust or large food processor, but avoid single serving blenders fitted with a tiny blade.
  • Use plain, full-fat yogurt. Low fat yogurt is not an option if you want to achieve a rich and creamy dip texture.
  •  Serve immediately for best results. When stored in the refrigerator, whipped feta tends to be thick and loose its fluffy and creamy texture, so it’s always best to make it at the last minute. It’s so quick to make anyway that you have almost no excuse not to!

Topping ideas for this whipped feta

Because whipped feta is relatively neutral in flavor (except of course the fact that it’s salty), there are so many possible ways to pimp it up with various seasonings and toppings. Here are just a few ideas, that you can mix and match together:

  • Dry herbs and/or spices. It’s the easiest option, as we often if not always have some dry herbs or spices at hands in our pantry. You can go for Herbes de Provence, Za’atar, Cumin or maybe Dukkah (Egypt’s famous nuts, seeds and warm spices). And what about some Cayenne pepper to spice it up a little?
  • Fresh herbs. My favorites! I love to mix fresh mint and cilantro, but you can also use one or the other, or replace with parsley or dill.
  • Nuts. I love to use toasted pine nuts, but whipped feta also works very well with pistachios, crushed almonds or hazelnuts.
  • Veggies. Think raw or roasted veggies! If using raw, you can cut them into sticks (carrots, cucumber, celery, etc.) or dip some broccoli florets. Any roasted veggies can do too, such as roasted carrots in spring, cherry tomatoes in summer and maybe other fall roasted veggies in fall.
  • Bread, chips and crackers. I love to serve whipped feta with pita bread that I cut into triangles and roast in the oven for a few minutes with olive oil. Other chips and crackers work too, and you can even go the extra mile and make your very own no-knead bread to serve along with whipped feta!
